Pete was born in Teaneck, NJ, not long after the stock market crash of '29. His family had a long career in Vaudeville and he started playing professionally at the age of four, entertaining with his family in an act performing for the CCC and the WPA workers. After his father passed away he took accordion lessons from Joe Biviano in NYC.
He played his accordion all through his school years in Englewood, NJ, at benefits, private parties, and during the summer in a resort in the Catskill Mountains. Pete began giving accordion lessons in his hometown at age 15 and had many very talented students over his 50 years of teaching. For over thirty years his "For Pete's Sake" band performed in the NYC Metropolitan area for weddings,private parties, and in lounges and restaurants. He moved to Phoenix in 1985 and started teaching at Ziggie's in 1988. he is a charter member and current treasurer of the Arizona Accordion Club that has a worldwide membership of over 250 accordion players and friends.
Pete retired from public school teaching this past May, after 35 years of teaching - 20 years in Tenafly, NJ, and 15 more years in Phoenix, AZ. He was a classroom teacher teaching all subjects in the 6th grade, most recently in the Cartwright District. Enjoying his retirement with his wife, Raye, is his main goal now, and hewill continue to teach accordion students and perform on a limited basis.He has owned und used many different accordions over the years. His favorite ones are Giulietti, Excelsior, Bell Douvox, and his newest toy, the Concerto.
